Antenatal Care, postnatal care



Antenatal Care helps keep the mother and unborn child healthy ensuring save delivery while postnatal care keeps them save after delivery.

When a woman conceives, she stands to be faced with great challenges, which is whether or not the baby and herself is going to make it through the pregnancy and the child bearing period.

What is an antenatal clinic?

Antenatal clinic is the venue where a pregnant woman's antenatal care appointments takes place. 

Though might be done in various places but this particular place must be specially set out as a place for antenatal care.

What are the things included in antenatal care?

For a pregnant woman's care to be called an antenatal care, the following should be involved:

·         Often visit to the antenatal care clinic
·         Good personal hygiene
·         Having good nutrition
·         Avoid alcohol & smoking
·         Rest and exercise
·         Work and activities

Often visit to the antenatal clinic:

There are series of visits a pregnant woman should make to the antenatal clinic during antenatal care, but this visits have been categorized into three (though there are no rules that these visits must be categorized in this way).

The three categories include:
·         The first visit.
·         The booking antenatal.
·         The after or later antenatal

The first visit: 
This is the pregnant woman’s first visit to the antenatal clinic, she is free to ask questions and will also receive some certain questions from the doctor or midwife. 

This is when her antenatal care appointments (schedules on when to visit the antenatal care clinic for her antenatal care classes) will be fixed.

The booking antenatal: 
This comes up eight to twelve (8-12) weeks of pregnancy some appointment must be held already before the booking antenatal care.

After or later antenatal care: 
This comes forth around twenty four (24) weeks of pregnancy, it happens after the booking antenatal care. This includes the antenatal care classes.

Note: this is not to say that a pregnant woman receives only three (3) antenatal appointment (classes) rather about ten (less or more) of the antenatal care classes (appointment) are categorized and fixed into the above categories.

Possible question the pregnant woman might be asked during her antenatal visit either by the doctor or the midwife:


·    She should be asked about her and her husband’s previous and recent health conditions. 

   Husband’s occupation, and where they live (their accommodations).

   This will help the doctor to know the possible healthy practices to put in place to ensure that they can afford it and that their child survives in their living place.

·    When she stopped seeing your period

·    Inheritable conditions she has and her husband’s origin. 

   This will help the doctor to prevent any such from getting to the child.

·   Any previous pregnancies and miscarriages.

·         How she feel at the moment

 The following test will be taken by the doctor during antenatal care

·         Abdominal examinations.
·         Weight check
·         Urine test penile assessment
·         Blood test and blood pressure

 A Pregnant Woman Learns the Following During Antenatal Care Classes

·         Good personal hygiene: the woman will be thought how to maintain a constant personal hygiene during antenatal care classes. This includes often taking of her bath, etc.

·         Having good nutrition: the pregnant woman learn the proper nutritious and balance diet to often take.

·         Alcohol and smoking: the pregnant woman learns the dangers of alcohol and smoking and therefore is advised to avoid it.

·         Rest and exercise: the pregnant woman is thought to always have enough rest and mild exercise.

·         Work and activities: the pregnant woman learns to avoid hectic day activities and strenuous work, such as pulling, lifting or pushing heavy loads.


·         Right clothing: the pregnant woman learns the right and proper clothing’s to put on, such as comfortable and loose clothes. Uncomfortable tight cloths and high heeled shoes should be never be put on.

POSTNATAL CARE

Postnatal care remains an important deal
for a nursing mother after child birth. 

To break the word postnatal done: natal has
to do with child birth and post has to do with
after.

 Therefore post natal care is a care that a
mother need woman’s after child birth. 

Just as prenatal/antenatal care is care a
woman need during pregnancy before child 
birth. 

The new born baby with the nursing mother
Is expected to be at the postnatal clinic for
examination and proper education all
concerning adequate nursing of the new baby,
and the care for the nursing mother as well.

Below are some necessities of postnatal
care.

Necessities of postnatal care:


The doctor or midwife should ensure that comes in place through the advices or instructions of the nursing mother.

1. Having enough rest: the nursing mother has gone through a lot of stress during pregnancy and child birth, therefore should observe enough rest to regain her worn out tissues and lost.

2. After child birth herb figure and muscle tone needs to be restored and this is best done by observing the right and prefers exercise regularly (exercise to be performed is best prescribed by the doctor or midwife.

3. Mother should also be made to be aware that necessary immunization should be given to the new baby at the right time.

5. Stay clean also: this is very much important for a nursing mother. She needs neatness as well as the new baby, therefore proper personal care, cleanliness and neatness should be a target and goal. 

Methods

During the new baby and the nursing mother visit to the postnatal care clinic the below are possible activities to be carried out by the doctor or midwife:

·   The pregnant woman’s urine blood pressure, blood, weight etc will be properly examined by the doctor.

·  Proper instructions and advice are given to the nursing mother which should be based on.

   I.   Her newly born baby’s immunization

   II.  How to place her babies i.e. how to space her babies to avoid irregular birth. This is short called family planning.

   III. Taking care of herself: this include proper exercises and feeding etc. practices as mentioned above.

   IV. How to take care of the baby: you may not really be wrong If you call this the ultimate; because the baby is what we have all been here for, taking care of the baby is what a nursing mother should consider very important.

   The baby isn’t fit in the world he/she find him/her self therefore a nursing mother should be properly informed on adequate procedure to take a good care of the new born baby.
